RSL Sub-Branch celebrates

Eighty people recently gathered at the Seymour RSL Hall to celebrate 100 years since the sub-branch opened its doors to returned servicemen and women.

The night included entertainment from the Australian Army Band Melbourne and was attended by Puckapunyal Commandant Colonel Dick Parker, RSL Victoria state vice-president Des Callaghan OAM, Wing Commander Kelley Stewart and Warrant Officer Class One Ian D'Arcy OAM.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm and councillors Rhonda Sanderson and Fiona Stevens were also there.

A plaque was presented to the Seymour RSL Women’s Auxiliary for its service through the sub-branch’s history.

Seymour RSL Sub-Branch secretary Ross Gregson said it was great to see the members and the community keen to celebrate the occasion.

“I’m glad we could have some recognition included for the women’s auxiliary. They have been around since the start and the sub-branch wouldn’t have survived without their work,” he said.

“We thank everyone who made the effort to come out and we look forward to celebrating more milestones in the future.”
