Rock 'n' roll rocks Rochester

"I saw them on Facebook and I thought, 'Oh, dancing'," Ms Shaw said.

"We've had dancers before, not this group, and our clients just loved it, so I thought I'd reach out."

The performance brought together social support group clients who live independently in the community, with a shared lunch adding to the warm, social atmosphere on the day.

Ms Shaw said music had a unique ability to bring people together.

"They love music, anything music," she said.

"Music has such a power. It's amazing. It's very important."

She said the social support group was committed to going above and beyond its regular program, always on the lookout for fresh and meaningful experiences for its clients.

"We try and make something a little bit different," she said.

"They love our everyday activities, but we like to give them something special every now and then."

Bendigo Jailhouse Rockers member Jill Gallagher said 14 dancers made the journey to Rochester for the occasion, with a handful of the group's members calling the local area home.

"We were invited by Anne to come up and have a dance for the guys, so we're more than happy to go out and do what we all love to do," Ms Gallagher said.

"I didn't even have to ask anybody. I just put it out there and everyone put their hand up instantly."

Ms Gallagher said there was nothing the group loved more than sharing their passion for rock 'n' roll with community audiences, and events like this one reminded them exactly why they do it.

"We love the music and the people just love the colour and the effort, so it's fabulous," she said.

"And this is the best floor. It gives us plenty of room. This is great."
