Rochy ambulance station waiting to open

Rochester’s newly-built ambulance station is awaiting its final inspection before it can officially open after a January storm caused damage to its roof.

Residents living near the new building who do not wish to be named said they were bewildered by local paramedic crews working out of an older building which was unsuitable.

“We value the dedication and hard work that our paramedics do every day and providing them with the equipment and facilities they need to quickly respond to local emergencies and save lives is of the utmost importance,” a Victorian Government spokesperson said.

“The new Rochester Ambulance Station will provide paramedics a fit-for-purpose and modern workplace to keep them safe and ensure they can continue delivering world class care to their community.”

The new ambulance station includes a three-bay garage for ambulances, two rest and recline areas for paramedics to recuperate, longer term accommodation, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, car parking and improved security to make sure crews are safe around the clock.

“The new Rochester Ambulance Station was completed in late 2023. In early 2024, following storm damage, additional works were undertaken to the branch’s fascia and ridge flashings. These remediation works are now complete,” a Victorian Government spokesperson said.

Further building inspections are currently under way.

Once completed, a date for paramedics to move in will be set.
