Since the close of the Murray Goulburn factory four years ago the Rochester Business Network has led a shift in thinking within the rural community that has resulted in a significant lift in the town’s profile.
The team from Postcards will arrive in Rochester on Tuesday, with show newcomer Tim Campbell the host of the Rochester segment, which will include Victorian and NSW riverside communities.
Campbell, who is married to Anthony Calea, replaced former Hawthorn star and Brownlow Medallist Shane Crawford on the show.
He is best known for playing the role of Dan Barker in iconic Australian soap opera Home and Away.
The actor and singer finished third in the 2008 series of Dancing with the Stars and has also starred in House Husbands, as well as being a regular at Carols by Candlelight.
Campbell and Calea were married in 2014, in New Zealand.
Campbell will lead a four-strong Postcards production team.
Rochester is among five towns that will be featured in the episode.
Rochester’s Campaspe River walk will be a feature of the episode, among half a dozen prominent tourist attractions.
The three silos will be on the agenda of the Postcards crew, who will also visit the sports museum, Shamrock Hotel, Iddles Lane and the recently completed mural festival artwork.
Rochester’s inclusion in the episode came about through the support of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, whose creative team identified the opportunity for the town to promote itself to a national audience.
With the backing of the Rochester Business Network the episode has become a reality.
The Postcards crew was at Berrigan and Tocumwal yesterday, at Rochester today and will continue on to Deniliquin on Wednesday before completing the episode’s filming at Swan Hill on Thursday.
Rochester Business Network is currently campaigning heavily for people to share their experiences in Rochester through a review on google or Trip Adviser.
Rochester businesses are reaping the benefits of the town’s increased popularity with visitors, as with its hosting of an Australian Rowing Championships team last week.
Despite the titles being held more than half an hour away, at Nagambie, Loreto Normanhurst Catholic Girls School elected to stay in Rochester.
The rowers were hosted at The Tavern, the 10-member team walking away from their stay in Rochester each with a Rochester Football Netball Club beanie.
