Council encourages cat and dog owners to register their pets and enjoy faster reunions if your pet goes missing and lower fees if your pet needs to be released from the pound.
Council announced that there is a new incentive for pet owners.
Residents who register their pets now won’t need to pay again until April 2027, giving them three months of free registration.
Registered pets that are found wandering can often be returned straight home to their owner.
If council can’t reach the owner and the pet has to be impounded, registered pets receive a discounted release fee, helping reduce the cost and stress for owners.
Mayor, John Dougall, said registering pets was one of the simplest ways owners could look after their animals.
“Registering your pet makes a real difference if they ever get out or go missing,” Cr Dougall said.
“It helps our officers return pets home quickly and can save owners the stress and cost of a pound stay.”
Registration fees also help fund local services, such as animal management, education programs and support for responsible pet ownership across the shire.
Council is reminding pet owners to check that their registration details are up-to-date, including contact information, microchip details, and desexing status, to help pets get home quickly if they’re ever lost.
