Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said it was only by sheer luck there have been no road incidents as a result of the conditions, and urged people to “take care on the roads”.
“It can be a significant advantage in daylight to have your vehicle’s headlights on when conditions are like this, as this increases your visibility to oncoming vehicles,” he said.
“Your tail lights also assist in your visibility for vehicles following you on the road.
“As the forecast shows a bit more rain and further low temperatures around the area, it’s a good idea to check your vehicle’s tyres are good with sufficient tread depth.
“If you are not doing it now, look at having your headlights on as you drive around, so everyone can stay safe on the roads.”
Beautiful sunrise
We may have had a lot of foggy starts this winter, but not all of them are so gloomy.
Deniliquin’s Prue Lea was taken by a beautiful, pinkish sunrise over the town on Friday morning, and just had to share it with PT readers.
The image was taken from the entrance to the Beach to Beach Walk at Edwardes St, overlooking the Edward River and the back half of Deniliquin Riverside Caravan Park.
We love seeing the beauty of our town and region through your eyes (or lenses).
If you have an image you’d like to share with us, send it to zoe.mcmaugh@denipt.com.au or by private message to the Deniliquin Pastoral Times Facebook page.
Please include a few details on where and when the photo was taken.
Friday night rain
It was set to be a wet weekend, but much of the precipitation came on Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
According to Elders Weather and the Bureau of Meteorology, there was 14.2mm of rain to 9am on Saturday in Deniliquin.
There was steady but less heavy rain that appeared for much of Saturday and Sunday in Deniliquin with 1.8mm recorded to 9am Sunday and 2.8mm recorded to 9am yesterday.
For anyone working outdoors on Friday evening as well as for the players, officials, volunteers, parents and spectators for junior sports that went ahead all did well to carry on in the cold and wet conditions.
Rams past players and supporters reminisce
The Deniliquin Rams Football Netball Club hosted a heart-warming Past Players & Supporters Day over the weekend, bringing together generations of club legends and loyal fans for an afternoon of stories, laughter and community pride.
Held alongside the Rams’ clash with Moama, the day was filled with nostalgic banter, memorable moments, and plenty of cheers from the sidelines as familiar faces reunited to celebrate the spirit of the club.
With strong attendance and even stronger camaraderie, the event was a reminder of the enduring connections built through local sport.
The Rams thank everyone who joined and can’t wait to do it all again next year.
Keep an eye out for photos in this Friday’s edition.
Impromptu mixed netball at Blighty
Despite a club bye last weekend in the Picola League, members of the Blighty Football and Netball Club still got in some enjoyable physical competition last week.
On Thursday night, some of the Blighty senior footballers took on the Blighty C-grade and C-reserve squad.
It was dubbed the great Netty-Footy Face-Off.
While the final score remains unclear, potentially like the footballers' understanding of the rules, plenty of fun was had by those involved.
Bowls season coming up soon
Believe it or not, the cold weather will soon be behind us, and you will be looking for things to do in the sunshine.
Why not give lawn bowls a try, if you haven't already?
The Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club is recruiting members. If you’re interested, give Tony Tonta a call on 0418 817 744.
