After the original timeline of Christmas 2025 was missed, with the permit now approved, residents will see the transformation of the proposed 255-273 Allan St site beginning soon.
Developer Chris Simes confirmed the demolition certificate for the site was issued about seven months ago and demolition would begin “very quickly”.
Mr Simes said after the site was demolished and cleared, construction would begin, but it might be a month before that started.
“The construction period for a McDonald’s store, from the day they start to the day it trades, is generally around 17 weeks,” Mr Simes said.
The project brings a wave of opportunities for the town, creating more than 220 jobs for construction workers and restaurant employees, and brings opportunities for community partnerships and sponsorships.
Mr Simes said the store would be trading about seven months from now.
“So somewhere around October, September ... I would imagine that thing’s trading,” he said.
