Numurkah art exhibition showcases ‘vibrant’ local talent

Visitors and judges were wowed by a vast and vibrant display of works at the Numurkah Rotary Club’s 46th Annual Art and Craft Exhibition held from Friday, March 6 to Monday, March 9.

Numurkah Rotary Club Art Show chairperson Christine Sutton said it was a “fantastic weekend.”

“The overall feedback that we got from the artists and public was that it was a great show and quite a vibrant standard of work,” she said.

“It’s really great to have that support from the community... from a fundraising point of view we matched our record sales that we've had over the last few years, which is really good.”

Ms Sutton said all the money raised would go towards Yarroweyah bushfire recovery, with the number raised still unknown, but it is expected to be a significant amount.

Cobram Anglican Grammar School students performed on the show’s opening night, showcasing a range of musical talent, and various awards were handed out by different judges.

Former local Joan Erikson was the art judge and awarded Best in Show to Nina Volk for her piece A swim on a hot day.

“Nina has made excellent use of light and shade, warm and cool punctuated with pops of colour,” Ms Erikson said.

Shepparton Camera Club member Leigh Teitz was the photographic judge and awarded both the framed photographic award and the theme photo, portrait character, to Chris Filshie’s Farm Hand.

“I think the author has really captured the character of his subject beautifully,” she said.

Numurkah Secondary College textile teacher Claire Reid was the crafts judge and awarded the best craft entry to Ann Fagan for her quilt Crafted Flower Tree.

“Bright, luscious reds, pinks and blue that Ann Fagan is known for are clearly evident, and the gold additions added a touch of glamour to the flowers,” Ms Reid said.
