New mural drops another pin on Mooroopna’s artful map

Shepparton Foodshare hopes a striking new mural on its back wall will be sought out by visitors to Greater Shepparton along an art trail and help contribute to the local economy via tourism dollars.

The colourful and vibrant design — an original artwork by local artist Tank — illustrates elements of the region’s natural environment.

The mural was funded by the Victorian and federal governments as part of the building project to construct the new Shepparton Foodshare warehouse and distribution centre, which opened earlier this year.

Originally, decorative fins were planned for the large, blank wall, but after input from the community and other stakeholders, the mural idea came to life.

“We are forever grateful for this support that has kept our doors open and providing food to those in our community that need it most,” Shepparton Foodshare executive officer Dee Healey said.

“It is our intent via this mural that we create a beautiful artwork for the community to enjoy, our gift to say thank you for your ongoing support.”

Shepparton Foodshare was established in 2012 due to a need for a central hub for people to donate and for those who required food for the people they support.

With no guaranteed source of funding to cover all operational costs, it has operated largely due to community generosity.
