Stacey Groves is busily pulling together her version of a farmers’ market. Only this time it is for equine owners new and old.
“I’d opened up my own business selling children’s riding apparel and I noticed there wasn’t much opportunity to trade in front of a targeted audience,” Mrs Groves said.
“This market is for everyone, from owners to coaches. I just wanted an all-round place for people to come.”
Bargains: The inaugural Central Victorian Equine Market will bring local craftsmen, second-hand sellers and afforable brands to one spot, offering horse owners a chance to shop till they drop.

There are about 60 sites available at the market, with some already filled by saddle fitter Saddle-Up, custom jump and gear maker Blue Poppy Equine, and Mr Magoo’s, which is a Phonix Feeds distributor.
Mrs Groves has focused on making the market accessible and enjoyable, with the average site costing a stallholder only $40.
“A bigger indoor site would go up to $150 but we’re also offering sites to second-hand gear guys for $25,” she said.
“I really encourage businesses to submit their applications through my website.”
After receiving positive feedback, Mrs Groves plans to run the market on a quarterly basis.
The first ever Central Victorian Equine Market will be held on Saturday, March 26, at Lancefield Park. Customers are offered free entry from 10am to 4pm.
