The facility, identified as a key action in Mitchell Shire Council's Chittick Park Master Plan, is designed to meet growing demand for dedicated off-leash spaces in the area.
The master plan was developed through community consultation.
When construction began in June, Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said the project was a significant milestone.
“It's great to see work under way on a facility that is very important to our community,” he said.
“The Chittick Park Master Plan made clear that a fenced dog off-leash area was a high priority. We've listened and are now delivering on that commitment.”
Once complete, the facility will include a fully fenced off-leash area, a separate zone for shy dogs, secure double-gated entries and seating for all abilities.
It will also feature trees and landscaping for shade, natural elements such as logs and rocks, a digging pit and a variety of surfaces to support play and training.
The project is funded by $166,500 from the Victorian Government's New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program, with Council contributing an additional $66,500.
“This is about creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for local pet owners and I want to thank the Victorian Government for their support in helping bring this important project to life,” Cr Dougall said.
Construction is expected to be completed by October, weather permitting.
