A new Goulburn River crossing is among six priority projects that Greater Shepparton City Council will advocate for ahead of the November state election.

The new bridge would be part of a roads resilience package that would also include funding to upgrade the following roads and intersections:

River Rd, Kialla (estimated $15 million to $20 million)
Ford Rd/Wanganui Rd, Shepparton (estimated $7 million additional funding)
Shepparton Alternative Route and Goulburn Valley Hwy, Congupna (estimated $20 million)
Toolamba Rd/Echuca Rd/Midland Hw y, Mooroopna (estimated $15 million)
Inner East Link Rd, Shepparton (estimated $14 million)
Welsford St, Shepparton (estimated $7 million)

Council is seeking a $12 million investment from the Victorian Government to expand and modernise the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre to help attract state and national sporting events.

Council is seeking $125.7 million for upgrades to GV Health to deliver an integrated cancer centre and a cardiac catheterisation laboratory.

An investment of $15 million is being requested for a TAFE training precinct to build a skilled workforce to support regional industry growth.

A regional growth fund would deliver:

Kialla West Growth Area Enabling Infrastructure: $21 million
Banmira Specialist School — Stage 2: $30 million
GV Link Enterprise Park — Stage 2: $28 million

A bus network review has also been requested.

Deputy Mayor Geoff Akers spoke about the projects alongside GV Health chief executive Matt Sharp and NVITAFE chief of education trades delivery Belinda Papas.

Mayor Shane Sali attended the announcement, but did not speak to avoid a conflict of interest as he is currently seeking an endorsement from the National Party.
