The design includes a 35m span bridge, about 3.2m higher than the existing structure, as the current one was too low for double-stacked freight trains.
The structure will also incorporate earth embankments sympathetic to the surrounding environment and retaining walls to reduce the impact on Avenel Rd.
The project is a part of Inland Rail’s nation-building project, which aims to transform how goods move around Australia.
ARTC Victoria and South Australian general manager projects Ed Walker said it was exciting for the company to start its fourth project in Victoria.
“Shovels will be in the ground before the end of the year at Seymour-Avenel Rd, and it’s expected to be completed in early 2025,” he said.
There will be road upgrades at 12 sites in Victoria as a part of the nation-building project.
Mr Walker said two of the 12 sites, Barnawartha North and Glenrowan, were close to completion, while one in Wangaratta was progressing well.
“Three companies have been shortlisted in the tender process to bid for the remaining eight projects at Benalla, Seymour, Broadford, Wandong and Tallarook,” he said.
