If you’re looking to collect cans and bottles to raise money, keep your eyes peeled for new baskets alongside public bins in Shepparton that will keep eligible containers separate from other recyclables.
Greater Shepparton City Council director infrastructure Aidin Montazami said the baskets provided both environmental and community benefits.
“Whether you’re collecting containers for a local sporting club, community group, charity or simply looking to earn a little extra money, these baskets make it easier to keep valuable recyclables out of landfill,” Mr Montazami said.
Greater Shepparton residents are able to collect containers left behind by other residents from the bin baskets and then redeem them through the Container Deposit Scheme.
Council is encouraging residents to help make Shepparton cleaner, greener and more sustainable by ensuring eligible containers are placed in the baskets.
Council is running the pilot project in partnership with VicReturn.
It was launched on Tuesday, September 29, with 10 bins located in key Shepparton locations.
