Neighbourhood watch helps tighten screws on crime

About 40 vehicles had safety checks on number plates in Seymour last week and had anti-theft screws installed.

The event was held by the South Mitchell Neighbourhood Watch in conjunction with the Mitchell Proactive Police Unit.

The neighbourhood watch’s Carolyn van der Ree said it was a successful day and it was important to keep the community safe by helping stop crime before it happened.

She said children had been able to ride a police bike and hop in the police car on the day.

She said money had been raised from gold coin donations and a sausage sizzle on the day, which would go towards a Seymour Community Watch when one was launched.

Ms van der Ree said she encouraged anyone who was interested in being part of the neighbourhood watch to come forward.

She said increased interest had been shown in Seymour in starting the neighbourhood watch, with 10 or so people needed to commit to launch the service in the town.

South Mitchell Neighbourhood Watch will give assistance to a new Seymour committee.
