The Victorian Nationals say they will scrap the four-bin system if elected.

The Victorian Nationals have made an early election promise to scrap the state’s mandatory four-bin system.

If the Coalition is elected in November, Victorian households would no longer be required to have a separate glass recycling bin.

State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said families across regional Victoria should be able to choose a waste system that worked for them.

“Regional communities know what works best for their local area,” Ms Cleeland said.

“Labor’s mandatory four-bin policy would force councils and ratepayers to pay for additional bins, collection services and infrastructure, with many families ultimately footing the bill through higher rates.”

Under the Victorian Coalition’s plan, councils would have the flexibility to decide how waste and recycling services are delivered in their communities, including whether a separate glass bin is necessary.

“Victorians are doing the right thing when it comes to recycling, but they should not be forced into a system that adds complexity and cost without clear benefits,” Ms Cleeland said.
