These awards recognise the enormous amount of time and effort from volunteers that goes into ensuring the safety of the community in times of threat, from not only fire events but also incidents of flood and road trauma.
There are many and varied roles in the brigade and being a member calls for ongoing training to ensure first responders are prepared when an emergency occurs.
A management team is also required to take care of other essentials for the optimal functioning of the brigade.
Outstanding achievement awards in the form of CFA life memberships were presented to Bob Whytlaw and Kevin Ryan by Commander Scott Connor on behalf of CFA.
Mr Whytlaw has been an active CFA firefighter for more than 63 years. During that time he has made himself available to strike team operations throughout the state during campaign fires.
He has also held lieutenant roles for many years and provided key support including logistics in major fires.
Mr Ryan has been an active CFA firefighter for more than 59 years and is still currently turning out as a first responder.
During this time he served as captain through a local campaign and has long held a position as a lieutenant.
He has also been involved in strike teams, as required, throughout the state. He has had involvement in District 23 operations and his expertise is often sought after.
Mr Ryan is a very loyal member of the CFA and in his words “I just did my best”.
Molyullah CFA life membership awards were presented by Captain Dion Stevensen to Bob Whytlaw, Kevin Ryan, Chris Hakkennes, Patrick Horne and Bill Willet.
Each of these recipients has been a part of CFA as a volunteer for more than 30 years.
