Men’s Sheds are found in many cities and towns around Australia and continue to spring up internationally.
The Finley MenShed operates from the shed at 42-46 Murray St, Finley from 8.30am to noon every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Its recycling service is open from 8.30am to 11.30am the same days.
Not all Men’s Sheds are the same.
If you looked inside you might see a number of men making furniture, perhaps restoring bicycles for a local school, fixing lawn mowers or making a cubby house for Camp Quality to raffle.
You will see tea bags, coffee cups and a comfortable area where men can sit and talk.
You will probably also see an area where men can contact their families by computer.
Whatever the activity, the aim of the Men’s Shed is universal - to encourage men to come together, talk, forge friendships and support their community at the same time.
It was only in March this year the group was able to distribute $15,000 in donations to various local groups.
Finley MenShed was founded about 11 years ago, and president Gavin Butcher said new members are always welcome.
“The more the merrier,” he said.
