In Mitchell Shire, as well as in Greater Melbourne and Macedon Ranges Shire, there is currently an increased risk of measles.
The case was reported in a returned traveller who visited Vietnam.
The Department of Health has warned measles is a highly infectious disease that can cause serious illness, and two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine are required for immunity.
The department urges anyone born during or after 1966, those who haven’t had two doses, and those who don’t know their current vaccination status, to get vaccinated.
Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, sore or red eyes, runny nose and feeling generally unwell, followed by a red maculopapular rash, which usually starts on the face before spreading down the body.
Symptoms can develop between seven to 18 days after exposure.
An updated health alert was issued by the Department of Health on Wednesday, May 7, with a list of active exposure sites across the state.
