Year 7 student Savannah won first place in the Middle Years category of Sustainability Victoria's Through Your Own Lens competition, which attracted 90 entries from 28 schools across Victoria.
“To me, building a climate-ready future is about preparing the next generation on how to take care of our environment.”
“After years of creating damage to our climate, our generation and those who come after us will be the one to change that,” Savannah said about her winning photograph, titled Future.
The judges praised Savannah's entry sharing their feedback.
“The dramatic and powerful use of darkness, contrast, and reflection conveys emotion and technical strength,” they said.
“The image captures the heavy burden facing future generations.”
Sustainability Victoria chief executive Matt Genever commended all participants for their artistic vision.
The winners received cash prizes for school sustainability projects, framed copies of their photographs and invitations to the 2026 ResourceSmart Schools Awards.
