Local Cubs gear up for annual Scouting adventure

Six local Cub Scouts are preparing for a major scouting adventure at the annual Victorian Cuboree.

Held between September 28 and October 2, the 2026 Cuboree will see the Seymour Cubs join young people from across Victoria at Gilwell Park, near Gembrook, for five days filled with outdoor activities, challenges, teamwork and friendship.

Ahead of the major event, the local Scouting group recently held a pre-Cuboree camp, where the Cubs and their leaders were able to get to know one another and practise camping together.

The camp gave the Cubs an opportunity to become familiar with routines, such as setting up their sleeping areas, looking after their belongings, sharing meals and participating in activities as a team.

It also helped the leaders to learn more about each Cub and how best to support them during the larger event.

“The pre-Cuboree camp was a valuable opportunity for everyone to become comfortable working and camping together,” Cub leader Steve Ellis said.

“The Cubs are excited about the adventure ahead. They have already shown plenty of teamwork, independence and enthusiasm.”

One Seymour leader will attend the Cuboree with the six Cubs to provide support throughout the event.

Other leaders from Seymour will also contribute to the Cuboree in important roles, including medical support and work health and safety.

Large Scouting events rely on volunteers working in many different areas to keep participants healthy, safe and involved.

Leaders assist with everything from activities and camping arrangements to catering, first aid, administration and site safety.

Victorian Cuboree is a celebration of fun, friendship and adventure, bringing Cubs together from across the state for an unforgettable scouting experience.

From exciting outdoor activities and creative challenges, to teamwork and plenty of laughter, every day will offer something new to discover.

It is a wonderful opportunity for Cubs to test their courage, build confidence, make new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.
