While many businesses have successfully applied for funding under the Small Business Immediate Flood Relief Program, further funding under the Business and Community Sport Flood Recovery Grants Program is required in order for many businesses to reopen.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said some businesses were facing closure unless they received financial assistance in the coming weeks.
“I’ve spoken to business owners right across our region and there is considerable uncertainty and anxiety around flood payments,” Ms Cleeland said.
“It was great to see the initial $5000 payment out the door promptly, but businesses now need further support dealing with such substantial damage and loss of income.
“The sad reality is that if many businesses don’t see financial assistance in their account soon their doors may not open again.
“Right now, nothing is more important that ensuring flood-impacted communities across our regions get the support they need to get back on their feet.”
Ms Cleeland said she had raised her concerns with the Victorian Government in the hope of working together to assist those in need.
“I have raised this matter with the Minister for Small Business and am hopeful we can work with Business Victoria to expedite the most urgent applications,” Ms Cleeland said.
“People are finding it incredibly difficult to negotiate the bureaucracy, so anything that can be done to simplify and speed up the process is incredibly welcome.
“If anyone is concerned about the progress of their application I encourage them to follow up with Business Victoria on 13 22 15 and check the status of their application on the Business Victoria grants portal.
