As part of a broader review undertaken several months ago, Moira Shire Council determined that separating the new building from the Shire Hall, from a fire rating perspective, would deliver a better overall outcome for the project.
The new structure of the Yarrawonga Library build meets its required fire rating classification.
Under earlier designs, the two buildings were to be treated as a single structure, which would have required extensive alterations to the Shire Hall.
Given the Shire Hall’s recognised state significant heritage status, Council decided that a separated approach was more appropriate, allowing both buildings to function independently, while preserving the Shire Hall’s heritage character and meeting all regulatory requirements.
The new Yarrawonga Library Precinct will feature a cafe facing Belmore Street.
The decision resulted in some additional fire rating works within and on the Shire Hall only.
Council has been working with the contractor to manage the changes, with all works now scheduled for completion in August or September, pending scheduling of works in the Shire Hall and to meet bookings for events during this time.
