John Barton, who recently moved to Seymour, is the founder of the Music Logic system, which allows students to easily and quickly understand the basis of reading and playing music.
One of his students, Cynthia Lim, said the U3A class worked on the premise that everybody was inherently musical.
“A person can start on a piano or keyboard and gain confidence for any instrument,” Ms Lim said.
“Many styles of music will be explored in this relaxed, fun group setting.
“Initially, attendees don’t even need their own instrument and are only required to practice for a few minutes each day to learn the language of music.”
Ms Lim said John had been running the classes for just over a year.
“Last year there were about eight students, but it dropped down to two,” she said.
“This year we seem to be steadily at 14 or 15 students, and it keeps growing to the point that he now needs to put on a second class.
“We’re lucky that he’s chosen Seymour for his retirement and that we have him right in our backyard as someone who’s developed this amazing way of learning.”
John will be presenting on Monday night, June 16, at the Seymour Rotary Club’s meeting at the Royal Hotel.
