Strathbogie Shire Council’s 2025 Community Leadership Program will soon launch, calling on individuals aged over 18 to take strides in their leadership journey.
The free program is open to any adult in the shire who has an interest in leadership. No prior experience is required.
Whether you are already active in the community or simply curious about how to make a difference, the program has been designed to support those who take part in growing their confidence, skills and impact.
Funded by Emergency Recovery Victoria’s Recovery Hub Grant Program, the program will equip residents with the skills needed to lead their community through its challenges and successes.
“Leadership doesn’t come from having a title, it comes from showing up, being curious and wanting to create positive change,” Strathbogie Shire Council Deputy Mayor Scott Jeffrey said.
“This program is about empowering everyday people to lead with integrity, purpose and connection.”
Those involved will learn to build resilient and connected communities, address local challenges, prepare for emergencies and consider decision-making that aligns with the needs and values of the community.
Over the course of six in-person workshops, participants will explore practical leadership tools in areas like governance, strategy, policy, public speaking and community engagement.
Key features of the program
The program will involve:
- six interactive workshops for a small group of up to 20 participants;
- hands-on learning and shared experiences from October to December this year;
- a celebratory graduation event to reflect on and showcase participant growth; and
- a focus on real-world leadership values, including integrity, inclusion, accountability and collaboration
Participants will experience the full program together, building strong connections and a shared sense of purpose.
“This is about building leadership from the ground up,” Cr Jeffrey said.
“If you care about your community and want to be part of shaping its future, we encourage you to apply.”
Applicants must be available to attend all six workshops, which are thoughtfully designed to broaden perspectives, build practical leadership capacity and encourage community-led action.
Applications open on Wednesday, July 30, and close on Monday, September 1.
