Across the country, the past two months have been filled with treats for a cause, and what better way to partake than at Seymour’s own hotspot of a coffee van?

On Thursday, June 26, the family-owned King’s Perk put on its own fundraiser for the Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
The brains behind the operation was barista Ebony Marshall, who spread the word over the business’s social media accounts.
“I remember seeing an advertisement on Facebook to hold your own biggest morning tea, and I just remembered, when I was at school at St Mary’s, we usually did one every year,” Ms Marshall said.
“It was just a nice feeling of everyone coming together in the school environment.
“Because we have so many locals and regulars that come to the van, I just said to mum, ‘what if we run it?’
The official Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea day is on May 22, however community groups and businesses can host their own events all throughout May and June.
The fundraising initiative raises money to support the Cancer Council, aiding those impacted by the disease.
“I feel like all of us either know someone that is affected, or has been affected, or has passed away from cancer,” Ms Marshall said.
Former employee of The Telegraph Norma McDonald gleefully donated to the cause.

On the day, the coffee van was selling slices, with 100 per cent of profits made from the sweets to go to the Cancer Council.
The van operates from 5.30am to 2pm each day, and Ms Marshall said, by mid-morning, the staff was already overwhelmed by the community support.
“It’s been a lot busier than usual, and we’ve already sold a lot more packs than we assumed,” she said.
“Early this morning at 5am, we filled our whole fridge with the slice packs, and, I think it was by 9.30am, it was empty.
“It’s very beautiful to see how many of our regular customers have shown up.”
A total of $803.50 was raised on the day, and the team at King’s Perk said they were blown away by the support from the community, giving a special thanks to Seymour Tyre and Mechanical and the Seymour Police Station.
“We want to thank the whole community, and the police station, for what they contributed,” Ms Marshall said.
“Thanks to all our regular customers as well, because, not only on this day, but every day, we couldn’t be here without them.”
