The smash repair business sees cars from as far as Bright, Wodonga and Wangaratta and owner Fiona Bourke says kangaroos are probably the cause of eight in every 10 accidents.
She said the last couple of years there had been a definite increase.
“It started in mid-2023,” Fiona said.
“There are more roos around, due to reduce culling, and more cars on the road, as most families have two or more cars now.
“The kangaroos are not afraid anymore; they are any place at any time during the day, anywhere and everywhere.”
Along with increased numbers of cars, there has been changes to the design.
Fiona said the compounds cars were made of are a lot finer than they once were and designed to crush to be safer in an accident.
“We’ve seen so many cars over the years that were hit by roos,” she said.
“The kangaroo repellents don’t seem to stop them.
“How you react is the important part; brake and hold the wheel tight.
“It’s best not to swerve as that has the potential to lead to a severe accident for yourself.
“Drive to the limit and the conditions, always scan with your eyes, especially on country roads.”
