In addition to providing quality early childhood education learning experiences, the Finley-based education provider also offers Outside of School Hours (OOSH) care and school holiday care programs.
OOSH
Biralee Preschool & OOSH runs an after school care program until 6pm from Monday to Thursday afternoons during the school term, for for both primary school and preschool children.
The service was made available again this year, under the leadership of OOSH coordinator Jacqui Mackay and with assistance of Maggie Powell.
Jacqui has been in the early childhood education industry for four years and brings the fun and games to OOSH after children have had a busy day at school and preschool.
Jacqui loves being outdoors, and regularly promotes outdoor activities within the OOSH program such as cricket, dodgeball, tag and hide and seek.
She also wears a creative hat.
Whether it is an obstacle course or puppet show suggested by the children, she is always willing to make it happen to see the enjoyment in the children’s faces.
What does an afternoon at OOSH look like?
At 3pm the bus leaves Biralee Preschool & OOSH with an educator on board to collect children from both Finley Public School and St Joseph’s Finley, before heading back to Biralee.
They arrive about 3.30pm and afternoon tea is served on arrival. This usually consists of fruit and vegetables, and then a more filling snack like fried rice, rice cakes with assorted spreads, pancakes, pasta and sauce or wraps.
All food intolerances are taken into consideration and meals are prepared with your children in mind.
The children are then free to take part in the array of fun activities that have been planned for the afternoon that include crafts, games, sports, building and more.
There are also spaces where children can take a break and chill out after a busy day of learning, with no added pressures.
If children need assistance to complete homework or school tasks, educators are more than happy to offer support.
School holiday care
Biralee Preschool & OOSH also offer care over the school holiday period for primary school and preschool children.
Care is available from 8am to 6pm Monday to Thursday, and from 8am to 4pm on Fridays.
The holiday program is similarly packed with fun activities.
In the past this has included making galaxy slime, spaceships and meteor discovery boxes and cinema excursions where we enjoy popcorn and drinks and go to the park afterwards.
Another popular past activity was the rocket day, when an explosives safety engineer - the father of a team member - demonstrated how to make rockets which were then launched.
Dedicated sports days and opportunities to learn new skills are regularly on the schedule also.
