State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland stressed the need for investment into facilities for Nagambie and the surrounding areas during her tour of schools, kindergartens, and childcare facilities across the region.
Ms Cleeland was joined on the tour by Shadow Minister for Early Childhood and Education Jess Wilson, with the pair visiting Kilmore, Broadford and Seymour before stopping at Nagambie Primary School.
The school’s ongoing challenges in establishing a kindergarten were discussed by Ms Cleeland and Ms Wilson, alongside principal Rob French and the Goulburn Region Pre-School Association’s Ronni Druitt.
“Families in towns like Nagambie and Avenel continue to struggle with outrageous waitlists as childcare and early learning facilities hit capacity,” Ms Cleeland said.
“There remains a growing need for more kindergarten facilities locally, with Nagambie Primary School making consistent efforts to establish a kindergarten at their campus.
“Unfortunately, the level of government support behind this project has not been enough, despite Nagambie being a prime location when it comes to needing accessible and available kindergarten spaces.”
Nagambie Primary School and GRPSA have put forward joint grant applications for a kinder through the Victorian School Building Authority.
Planning issues are also prevalent at St Joseph’s Primary School in Nagambie, with planning delay challenges continuing to put pressure on the establishment of another kindergarten in the region.
