A regular user of one of Shepparton’s main intersections is worried that someone will be injured if drivers don’t start doing the right thing.

Chris Beard regularly drives through the intersection at the corner of Welsford St and Fryers St and is concerned at the number of near misses she sees often.
Mrs Beard said the problem was that there were now two turning lanes for traffic travelling south in Welsford St and turning into Fryers St to head to Mooroopna — something that had only been introduced in recent years.
She said she regularly saw vehicles in the right of the two turning lanes go too wide as they rounded the corner, veering into the other turning lane, which also had traffic in it.

Mrs Beard, who lives in Katandra West, said she travelled that way to Mooroopna two or three times a week to see her father.
She said she would see cars veering into the wrong lane “80 per cent of the time”.
Recently she also saw her first crash there when a ute towing a trailer sideswiped another car turning next to it with the trailer and did not even notice it had happened.
And she is worried that a more serious collision will occur if drivers don’t start paying attention.
“To avoid accidents, they (drivers) need to be aware they need to stay in their own lane,” Mrs Beard said.
“You have to be aware of what can go wrong.”
Mrs Beard said she always went around the corner in the right lane because she regularly saw drivers doing the wrong thing and she did not want to be involved in a crash.
“It is an accident waiting to happen,” she said.
“People have to be made aware they need to stick to their lane.”
When questioned about safety at the intersection, Shepparton police said they had not received any reports or complaints regarding the intersection, and they had not been called to any recent injury collisions there.
However, Shepparton Highway Patrol Sergeant Janne Kennedy said police recognised that distracted driving, or drivers failing to adhere to the road rules, was frustrating to all other road users.
She said police regularly conducted patrols along Welsford St.
