Firefighters with the NSW Rural Fire Service were called to a property on Lawson Lane, Deniliquin on Wednesday afternoon after reports of embers and smoke.
On investigation, the Wandook and Deniliquin brigades discovered what Mid Murray Superintendent Tony Whitehorn referred to as an “illegal burn”.
A neighbour was burning off, but had not formally notified the fire authority or neighbours as required.
Supt Whitehorn said firefighters extinguished the blaze before leaving the property.
“We remind everyone that all burns must be notified via our portal, and to all neighbours 24 hours before,” Supt Whitehorn said.
