Leaves & Vines owner Kasey Hilliard said with a little bit of planning now as autumn comes to a close, you can continue to enjoy your garden through winter without having to be out in the cold too much.
“Now is the time to feed your lawn so you get a hard growth factor and deep roots before the winter frosts set in,” she said.
“You should also be starting your heavy watering so that, hopefully, there’s enough water retained in your garden beds to trickle up during the winter months.
“But try not to water too early in the morning or too late at night, to avoid root shock from the cold.”
As for adding to your gardens, now is the time to be ordering and planning your winter planting schedule.
“Get your winter veggies in and your bulbs, and add or replenish your mulching,” Kasey said.
“We have locally sourced rice mulch in stock at the nursery, and through the landscaping side of our business Matt and I can also help you spread it.
“We also stock Chick-Phos pelletised fertiliser and Charlie Carp, which are both natural products and the only thing we use on our own gardens.
“Now is also the perfect time to be looking at your barerooted trees.
“We can offer expert advice as to which will suit you and the timing to plant, and we’re taking orders now.
“Due to the bare roots these are not items we’ll have in the nursery over winter, it is all to order so make sure to come in and see us early.”
Winter is also when you should be getting in and pruning those rose gardens, and if the job is too big for you to handle Kasey and Matt can assist.
