The mercury is expected to climb to 38°C on Friday and into the 40s on Saturday and high 30s again on Sunday before a cool change on Monday.
Temperatures inside some testing tents can be as much as 10 degrees higher than outdoors and healthcare workers are kitted out in full personal protective equipment.
Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton encouraged people to check coronavirus.vic.gov.au/where-get-tested-covid-19 to see which testing sites were open.
“If you are getting a PCR test, plan ahead. You may have to travel further,” Prof Sutton said in his daily coronavirus update.
"Remember the dangers of sitting in hot weather in your car for long periods. Young children, the elderly, people with medical conditions and pets are at higher risk of harm.’’
People are reminded to take water and supplies when getting tested.

Testing in Shepparton is available at the GV Health walk-in respiratory clinic on Graham St, from 8am to 4pm, and at the drive-through site at Shepparton Showgrounds from 7.15am to 3.15pm on New Year’s Eve.
Testing is also available at Princess Park Medical Clinic’s respiratory clinic from 9am to noon Monday to Friday, but bookings are required using the HotDoc app or online at https://www.princessparkclinic.com.au
GV Health’s vaccination hub at Shepparton Showgrounds’ McIntosh Centre will reopen from January 4.
