Deniliquin RSL Club acting CEO Mel Clarke said the trailer had belonged to the Deniliquin RSL Fishing Club.
The sub-club of the RSL disbanded last year, meaning the trailer has been unused since then.
Now in the hands of the Edward River Camping and Fishing Group, Mrs Clarke said the aims of the RSL Fishing Club can continue through other community volunteers.
“This fishing group works in conjunction with the Deniliquin Kolety Fishing Challenge to improve the health of the rivers,” Mrs Clarke said.
Among the group members there to take ownership of the trailer was Rick Bentley, who thanked the Deniliquin RSL for the gesture.
“On behalf of the Edward River Camping and Fishing Group we would like to thank the RSL for their kind donation of the trailer, which will help kick start this group and make a difference.”
Mr Bentley said the group is planning to have regular camping and fishing outings, in addition to its weekly raffles at the Couch House Hotel on Friday nights.
Proceeds will be used to restock the rivers, in conjunction with the challenge organisers.
“Everything you need is there (on the trailer),” Mr Bentley said.
“With the trailer we have covered a lot of the essentials so we can camp, fish and the group can focus on our main cause which is to get carp out of the river.”
RSL acting CEO Mel Clarke and Edward River Camping Fishing Group's Rick Bentley complete the fishing trailer donation and handover.
