Despite the good news, a timeline on the historic vessel’s return to the water is no closer, with the extent of damage to the Canberra’s engine and cabins still unclear.

As repairs continued on Monday, staff from the NSW Office of Transport Safety Investigations were spotted at the slipway.

Senior transport safety investigator Steve Andriske explained the office was impartial, and focused on finding solutions, not blame.

“We’re trying to work out what happened and how we can prevent it in the future,” Mr Andriske said.

Murray River Paddlesteamers did not comment on the progress of the repairs.
