As president, Mr Murphy said he hopes to increase membership in the branch, which currently stands at just under 180 members.
“There are two ways to gain new members, with the priority being to encourage any former servicemen and service women living in our community to become members of the RSL,” he said.
“Those former servicemen and women who can be assisted by the RSL do not need to be members of the RSL, but we do need to know who they are.”
Mr Murphy also asked community members to encourage anyone who has served in defence forces to reach out to the RSL via the local-sub branch.
Requests can also be made privately through 1300 MILVET (1300 645 838).
The AGM also saw secretary Glenda Mann re-elected unopposed, as well as existing committee members Judith Dunn, Denise Rowe and Brenda Smethurst. They will be joined by new committee member Barbara Turner.
Nominations for seven candidates for four vacancies on the committee also revealed there is interest in keeping the sub-branch viable.
The Anzac Appeal, one of the RSL’s major fundraisers, will run again with Mr Murphy encouraging the community to look out for donation tins and tokens, which will be available around Cobram from April 16.
