For the first two weeks of March, 16 Avenel Primary School Year 5 and 6 students undertook intensive peer mentor ‘Friend-o-Leader’ training to promote student voice and develop connections between students.

The students learnt and practised the steps to assist others with their friendship issues.
They revised friendology tools like the 4 Friendship Facts and the Friend-o-Meter and made resources that will help them when they are ‘on duty’.
The students were enthusiastic in carrying out their roles in the playground last week, making a weekly roster.
Avenel Primary School Prep teacher Nicky Greenaway said the Friend-o-Leaders complemented the school’s Positive Education Program.
“We are very excited to see so many of our senior students stepping up into this leadership role,” Ms Greenaway said.
