The annual meeting of the Diocese of Wangaratta Mother’s Union will be held on Monday, November 17 at Wangaratta West Church where the branches will give their reports and hopefully elect a new president (of which they have been without for one year).
Sadly, the Parish of Central Goulburn Mother’s Union branch has folded this week of November 2025.
The last remaining eight members of the Central Goulburn MU branch agreed to close the branch due to the decline of members over the past year, the lack of obtaining new members, and the disability of current members to meet this year, due to reasons such as ill health, inability to drive to meetings and activities.
This is sad, as the Seymour MU has been an active branch since 1959, Avenel members joined in the 1980s, and Nagambie folk, when it became the Central Goulburn MU branch, in the early 2000s.
This is a reflection of many community groups where new members are not attracted to organised groups, and a decline in numbers of many community groups also shows many folk are not community minded in joining such groups or even local churches.
It is a sign of the times.
However, the members from the Central Goulburn MU branch would like to thank all who have supported their MU branch in Seymour, Nagambie and Avenel for many years, their annual fundraisers for MU projects, and also give thanks to their fellow Diocesan of Wangaratta branches and the DOW MU executive committee for their support in the Diocesan MU activities and the spiritual support given to many of our members for a long period of time.
We have been fortunate enough to support the DOW and Australian MU projects and local and community activities over the years thanks to the support of our parish folk and the people of our local community.
In 60 countries, members carry out work in support of family life, and they are committed to social justice and the empowerment of women.
It has been an honour to have been a branch connected to one of the largest worldwide Christian welfare church organisations — The Anglican Mother’s Union, which began in 1876 in England, and in 1892 in Australia.
Our small branch did their very best to follow these aims and objectives through faith in Christ, prayer and practical action.
We wish all the MU branches across the Diocese, Australia and across the world all the best for their endeavours in the future.
