Drive safely near schools

School crossing supervisors will be working to help children cross safely as they travel to and from school and all adults should lead by example and cross at the designated crossings.

School zone speed limits will be back in force and council’s local laws officers will be monitoring and enforcing parking restrictions.

Council encouraged drivers to make full use of drop-off points and to remain patient as the school rush hit.

Mitchell Shire Mayor David Lowe there would be many new students starting their school journey.

“When it comes to the school drop-off and pick-up, it is imperative drivers obey speed limits and use designated parking zones. Let’s start the year setting a great example for school safety,” he said.

Mitchell Shire crossing supervisor Lisa Haigh said it was important for everyone to stop, look, listen and think.

“Stop at the yellow safety line, look at the crossing supervisor and the traffic and wait for the whistle. No running or bouncing balls, just walk safely across the road,” she said.
