The Kings started strong with a flurry of high scores to be 2-1 after the team games, but the Vikings went up a gear and won seven of the next eight games to take the points with a convincing 9-2 win.
The Kings’ Terran ‘Tezza’ Crispin was in fine form, finishing the night with seven tons and 140.
Captain Jarrod Duggin led his team bravely, slamming in four tons.
Jeff ‘King of Kings’ Rhue was the only other player to hit a recordable score, nailing 101.
The Vikings’ highlights included seven tons, 121 and 140 for Mark Robinson, who also hit his first 180 for the season — well done Robbo.
Peter Myles was on song, firing in 10 straight tons.
Vikings’ captain Mark Jones had a quiet night but snuck in a ton and two 140s.
While Darren Withoos chipped in with 108.
The second game of the night was between the R.C.C. 26ers and the Golf Club Aces in a grand final rematch.
With the Aces smarting from a hefty loss their previous outing, they were determined to get one back, but the sheer finishing prowess of the 26ers proved too much for the Aces, as the home team sent them packing with a 10-1 defeat for the second time in as many weeks.
Andrew Meiselbach was once again a force to be reckoned with, adding to his tally with another five tons, 125 and high pegs of 110, 96 and 91.
Rob Welsh returned to form with three tons, two 140s as well as his own high peg of 82.
Ben MacPherson speared in two tons, 108 and 119.
Steve Ash lobbed in four tons, 121 and 140.
The Aces’ Dan Raynor hit back after a quiet one last week, slipping in five tons and 106.
Frank Roberts hit two tons and 116.
Emily Wills steered in a ton, 105 and 121.
Their captain Steve Raynor scored a ton, 132 and the team’s high peg of 60.
The third and final game of division one saw the Lions and the Tigers lock horns in the battle of the big cats.
With this being their first meeting, it was a bit of an unknown quantity as to how the match would unfold, but the Lions don’t occupy top spot by chance and quickly asserted their dominance, running away with a 9-2 victory.
It wasn’t all one-way traffic for the home team as the Tigers pushed them at every turn, with half of the singles matches being forced into a third leg decider.
The visitors were well led by their captain Jack Stephens who hit a purple patch of form, throwing five tons, 140 and a high peg of 70.
His old man Craig chipped in with a ton and 134.
Dan Sporle snuck in 101.
Youngster Mitch Wittig scored just the single ton to cap off the highlights for the Tigers.
The Lions’ Gary Power was in scintillating form, nailing three tons and five 140s.
Raymond Maloney wasn’t far behind him, steering in five tons, 121 and 140.
Rick Wylie hammered in two tons and 121.
Adam Lynch hit the game’s highest peg of the night, a finish of 72 — he also threw a single ton.
The first match up for division two saw the top-of-the-table Bottom Pub Pirates throw down the gauntlet against the POW Misfits at the Broadford Hotel.
The Misfits have enjoyed some good form against the Pirates in seasons passed, with the head-to-head count sitting at 4-2 in the favour of the team from the Prince of Wales.
But the Pirates are brimming with confidence, having been enjoying a strong season so far and continued their winning streak for another week, sending the undermanned Misfits outfit home with an 8-3 defeat.
The Pirates captain Dan Kilroy led his team from the front, finishing the night with six pegs, three tons, 121 and two 140s.
His brother Steve Kilroy continued his stellar season so far, smashing in three tons, 120, 121 and the match high peg of 97.
Jamie Dow-Rowan had a good night on the oche, winning both his singles games as well as sneaking in a ton, 121 and 128.
The highlights for the Misfits included 106 and 123 to Peter Bird who also scored his first-ever singles victory.
Captain Aaron Ballantyne hit a high peg of 50 as well as throwing a ton and 140.
Travis Mendoza hit his team’s highest finish of the night, a peg of 65.
The second match of division two had the Pyalong Buccaneers line up against the POW Rebels, and with the Buccaneers sporting their new-look uniforms, they had their opponents on the back foot straight off the bat.
The Pyalong team got off to a flying start winning all three team games, but the Rebels fought back hard and although they didn’t win any of the first four singles matches, they pushed the home team to a third leg in each of them.
The Rebels’ Steve Reed got his team on the board at the start of the reverse singles and his fellow Rebel, Jos Mason, snuck in a ton but that seemed to trigger the Buccaneers into gear as they cannoned away in the final three matches to take the chocolates with a 10-1 victory.
Mark Ruddick dominated the highlights for the home team, with the Buccs’ captain firing in three straight tons.
Jayde Pearson was off the boil, only managing the single ton in a quiet night by her standards.
Mick Doyle showed plenty of improvement in his debut season, scoring a ton, 101 and a couple of good checkouts, landing a 60 and 74, the highest for the match.
The final game of the round had the Royal Rascals hosting the Yea Renegades at the Royal Hotel.
With the Renegades perched in second spot and the Rascals down on form, the visitors were hot favourites to take the match out.
True to the odds, that was how the script played out, with the ’Gades winning six games straight to put the result beyond doubt before the Rascals were able to land a blow.
The final four games of the night went down to the wire, but the damage was already done, with the Renegades running away with the four points and a 9-2 victory.
The Rascals had a dark night early on, but there was a little bit of light as Belinda Reid and Stuart Crockett hit a ton each and John Crockett snagged 118.
The Renegades continued their upward trajectory thanks in large to Leigh Turnbull who found a rich vein of from on Monday, landing two tons, 101, 135 and 140.
Roger McCallum was in the zone, the Alexandra import smashed in 121 and two 135s.
Chrystal Turnbull continued to get it done for her team, the ’Gades captain slipped in two tons and 140.
Scott Oakley hit three straight tons to round out the highlights of another terrific round of darts.
