After obtaining $15 million in funding for the Seymour Community Wellbeing Hub, Mitchell Shire Council is developing the project, set to be placed on Keith St behind the Seymour Library and Customer Service Centre.
Since the early 2000s, The Seymour We Want has been part of community advocacy for such a hub, including:
- a community plan consultation in 2004, which led to a plan which brought together ideas from more than 300 people being published in 2005;
- Bright Ideas for Seymour, a 2012 campaign which brought together more than 600 ideas; and
- involvement in the Mitchell Shire community consultation for the Seymour Wellbeing Hub.
With council now conducting its final stage of consultation for the hub, The Seymour We Want is encouraging residents to take advantage of the opportunity and have their say.
Council’s Listening Tour event on Wednesday, August 13, will be a key point for the feedback process, with a brief presentation on the hub to be followed by question time, when attendees can pose queries to councillors and council staff.
The Seymour We Want calls on community members to think about the possibilities of the hub and what it can be used for.
“How might we take advantage of the opportunity the new community wellbeing hub offers us?” a spokesperson from the group’s committee said.
“How does the new facility need to be shaped to make this possible?
“Imagine if there were so many ideas and so much energy that we needed to retain the existing library rather than it being demolished when the new facility is completed.”
Council’s Listening Tour will be held at the Ken Hall Pavilion in Kings Park, Seymour, from 6pm to 7.30pm.
If you can’t make it, the closing date for submissions is midnight on Wednesday, August 20.
