Recruitment is now open for approximately 20 Project Firefighters (PFF) to work in north east Victoria.
FFMVic Hume Deputy Chief Fire Officer Aaron Kennedy said this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is physically fit and ready for plenty of outdoor work.
“You could be operating heavy machinery one week and responding to an emergency the next,” he said.
“The roles involve being on the frontline fighting bushfires, conducting planned burns, managing roadside vegetation, pest and weed control, maintaining access to fire trails and roads, and supporting other emergency work to help protect the community and environment.
““We encourage anyone looking for an opportunity to work in our beautiful forests and parks to apply.
“Extensive training will be provided to successful recruits, with people from all work backgrounds encouraged to apply.”
PFF roles are made up of general firefighters, fire support officers and rappel crew and all positions maintain the public land in the region.
These fixed term and ongoing positions will be based in a variety of areas across the region including Benalla, Mansfield, Alexandra, Broadford, Marysville, Toolangi, Bright, Ovens, Corryong, Mitta Mitta and Tallangatta.
There are several positions available for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island people and women, with FFMVic working towards achieving equal representation of men and women by 2025.
The employment of additional staff supports FFMVic’s Advanced Forest and Fire Management approach to deliver a 365-day per year fuel management program, including targeted burning, enhancing Victoria's first attack capacity and capability to control and prevent fires.
Applications are now open with PFF roles closing August 1.
