The Local Aboriginal Network, in partnership with council, will partner with various community groups for the annual NAIDOC Week parade in Seymour today.
The event will begin with a welcome to country and smoking ceremony at 10.30am, before the parade starts from the corner of Crawford and McIntyre streets.
From 11.30am until 2pm tucker, stalls and family friendly events will be available at Kings Park, Seymour.
Mitchell Shire mayor Bill Chisholm said the NAIDOC Week parade had become a staple for the Seymour community.
‘‘I can’t wait to attend this event once more. Recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their history, culture and achievement is very important for Mitchell Shire,’’ he said.
‘‘We released the first Acknowledging our Traditional Owners Resource Guide earlier this year and we will continue to work with the elders of the Taungurung and Wurundjeri peoples.’’
