Firefighters are reminding people of their responsibilities with fire, after being called to a grassfire in Deniliquin on Sunday.
On a warm and windy day, the Deniliquin NSW Fire + Rescue team was alerted to a blaze on Finley Rd about 1pm.
Captain Martin Smith said the conditions had reignited a pile burn thought to have been completely extinguished.
“It’s a timely reminder that people must ensure their fires are fully extinguished,” Capt Smith said.
“It’s also encouraged to monitor the burn site for a few days, even if you feel it’s been fully extinguished, in case of any flare ups.”
Capt Smith issues the warning now, despite restrictions on burns coming into effect on October 1.
That’s when the Bush Fire Danger Period for the Mid Murray Zone - which covers the Edward River region - came into effect.
