Organisers, visitors and more than 50 youths attended day one of the Aboriginal Youth Cultural Gathering in Deniliquin on Tuesday.
A concept put forward by workers at the Deniliquin Local Aboriginal Lands Council, the two day event concluded at Four Post Camp on Wednesday.
Day one was a cultural day which featured a youth cultural dance, while day two was a service providers day.
Those attending could also try basket weaving, tool making, cultural heritage walks, yarning with elders and dancing.
Lunch was provided and youths could choose between a free shirt or cap as a keepsake.
Cultural performer Brett Ross said day one was “to maintain and preserve history through song and dance”.
“It was also to enjoy cross cultural awareness between non-indigenous and indigenous people, bringing them all together,” he said.
“For some of the youth it was their first time using clap sticks and learning the cultural dances,” Karen Mobourne from Deniliquin LALC added.
