Great day out: Celebrate Aussie Day in style at Benalla Bowls Club Photo by Simon Ruppert

If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate Australia Day with fun, games, food, drink and a spot of live music, why not head over to Benalla Bowls Club?

With traditional Australia Day events scaled back this year because of COVID-19, many in the community might find themselves looking for something to do.

In that respect the bowls club has you covered.

With large indoor and outdoor areas the club is well equipped to welcome guests in a COVID-safe environment.

Club operations manager Daniel Wells said the day’s events begin at 3pm with some social bowls and live music.

“We have live music from Mick Tenace,” Mr Wells said.

“The outdoor bar is open and anyone can come along and sit under our covered areas to enjoy the music and watch some bowls.”

If you would like to have a go on the bowling green Mr Wells said it was open to everyone, regardless of experience or skill level.

From 5pm to 9pm the club function room will be open.

“People are free to come inside and have some drinks and nibbles in a relaxed atmosphere,” Mr Wells said.

“The bistro is open from 6.30, when we will also be starting our raffle.”

There is more than $3000 in prizes to be won as part of that.

Mr Wells said there would be some Aussie specials on the menu for anyone who wanted to order a meal.

The club’s full menu will also be available.

The day is being operated as a COVID-safe event and as such attendees will have to provide proof of being double vaccinated.

Masks will need to be worn when inside the premises, but not in its outdoor areas.

Booking in advance is preferable and can be done by phoning 5762 2094. Entry is $10.

Raffle tickets are on sale. You can purchase one by phoning the above number or popping into the bowls club.
