On Sunday, March 17, the girls from Benalla, Mansfield, Euroa and Wangaratta came together for the opportunity.
A Benalla Guides spokesperson said Girl Guides Victoria runs the Dragonfly Drone program.
“(It’s a) fun and interesting event that enables Girl Guides to pilot drones safely and responsibly, so they can be prepared for future opportunities in employment, creativity and service,” the spokesperson said.
The girls got the opportunity to fly remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) and micro quadcopters.
“The girls learned to pilot their drones into the air and also learned some block coding for microdrone flight to send their quadcopters on a rescue mission,” the Spokesperson said.
“They learned about the safety regulations that have to be followed for flying the quadcopters.
“They experimented with skills such as flipping, turning, hovering and taking photos of an object below.
“There was great discussion about the careers that use drones and the different sizes of drones available and how drones are used for delivering medical supplies, food and surveying dangerous situations and lots more.
“All had a very interesting day.”
This is just one activity that girls have the opportunity to access through Girl Guides.
