October is a critical month in the CFA calendar, with Get Fire Ready events planned statewide.
Across the month, brigades will provide information and resources to keep residents prepared ahead of fire season.
The fire danger period can be declared as early as October and last until May.
In 2024, it began in November and ended in April 2025.
Get Fire Ready events include education on property preparation, fire danger ratings, emergency information sources and creating bushfire survival plans.
It also presents an opportunity to engage with local CFA members.
Local events planned are:
- Rochester — Saturday, October 4 from 11am to 2pm at Cottam’s Family Butcher, 57 Gillies St
- Lockington — Sunday, October 19 from 9am to 11am at Lockington fire station, 2417 Lockington Rd
- Goornong — Sunday, October 26 from 10.30am to 3.30pm at Goornong Primary School’s 150th celebrations, 26 Grant St
