The pair were selected from more than 3000 applicants, but it is not the first time the duo have done the job.
Murray, 13, and Garner, 15, have played at Avenel Tennis Club for the past five and nine years respectively.
This year is Murray’s second Australian Open, while Garner returns for his third and final year as a ball kid.
The final ball kid squad was announced in early December and includes 293 Victorians, 29 interstate representatives and 38 international ball kids from France, China, India and Korea; all of whom are set to roll alongside the world’s top tennis players at the Australian Open.
The final Australian Open 2019 Vegemite ball kids squad was selected after a rigorous 10-month process, which included an initial application, selections, training and trials.
Garner was thrilled to be selected alongside friend Murray.
‘‘I am extremely proud and excited,’’ Garner said.
‘‘This is my third year being a ball kid and it is still exciting to get the email saying you have made the main squad.
‘‘Hopefully I get to ball kid Alex Di Minaur or Thanasi Kokkinakis,’’ Murray said.
Some of the world’s best tennis players, including Roger Federer and Australia’s own Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt, were ball kids before joining the professional ranks.
Applications for the Australian Open 2020 ball kids program are now open at tennis.com.au/ballkids
