AusNet executive general manager of distribution Andrew Linnie said the company was investing in building careers in regional areas.
“We are creating meaningful careers in our regional communities, building the skills needed for the energy transition and helping Victoria meet its renewable energy and emissions target,” Mr Linnie.
AusNet is investing more than $3 million to launch nine three-year distribution traineeships across the state, with six to be located in regional Victoria.
Offering a $78,000 annual salary, hands-on experience and the chance to live and work locally, AusNet’s traineeships will help participants navigate the changing energy landscape.
At the end of the three years, trainees will graduate with a nationally recognised Advanced Diploma of ESI — Power Systems and a pathway to a permanent role.
In Seymour, traineeships in access planning and network connection will be available.
Network connection roles will also be on offer in Sale or Bairnsdale and Leongatha, while access planning traineeships will be available in Beaconsfield and Traralgon.
In Melbourne, three distribution control and operations traineeships will be offered.
Trainees will learn face-to-face alongside their peers and, while each participant is completing the same qualification, the learning will be tailored to one of three specialised streams.
To apply, prospective trainees will need to have completed Year 12 by the end of 2025, with strong performances in maths and science.
They will also need to have unrestricted working rights in Australia, access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license, and be able to travel monthly for training for roles based outside of Melbourne.
After completion, trainees will be fully qualified.
“This is a unique opportunity to work in the energy industry, make a difference in the communities we operate in and leave a positive legacy,” Mr Linnie said.
Applications opened on August 4 and will close on September 4.
